SUMMER FILM APPRECIATION COURSE 2026

A
three-week, full-time Film Appreciation Course will be conducted from 1st
June to 19th June, 2026, in Pune, under the joint auspices of the National Film
Development Corporation of India (National Film Archive of India) and the Film
& Television Institute of India (FTII).
This is an intensive course designed to promote
comprehensive understanding and insights into the nature of cinema and other
related forms and practices. These include recent developments like independent
films, digital streaming and the OTT media. The course is primarily designed to
meet the needs of teachers/scholars interested in introducing film study
activities in educational institutions, media practitioners, film society
organisers, researchers, Govt. officials handling films and serious cinéphiles.
The curriculum includes theoretical study of the art
and history of film and the development of cinema as a medium of art and
communication. Conceptual areas of cinema such as time, space, mise-en-scene, genres, movements, image
and sound aesthetics will feature prominently in the programme. There will also
be a brief introduction to history and aesthetics of documentaries. Participants
will engage with a curated selection of Indian and international film classics,
short fiction, and non-fiction works for critical analysis and discussion. The
programme will be taught by the core faculty, along with eminent guest faculty
members of FTII.
*Please Note: This is not a course in film production
or scriptwriting. The emphasis is completely on understanding and analysis of
films and film history, and there will be no practice-based inputs included in
the syllabus.

Course Timing: 9:30 am to 8:30 pm (including film
screenings)

Course Venue: FTII- NFDC (NFAI), Phase II, Near Doordarshan
Kendra, Rambaug Colony, Kothrud, Pune
4) Medium
of Instruction: Primarily English
5) Age
Requirement: Applicants must be at least 21 years old as of 01.01.2026
6) Educational
Qualification: Minimum of a
Graduation degree (in exceptional cases, HSC/12th pass may be considered)
7) Application Form & Fee:
Application form has to be duly filled, with a non-refundable fee of Rs. 1000/- to be
paid via Online Transfer details (via SBI Payment Collect Portal).

(6 pm IST). Application
submitted after due date & time will not be considered.

will be screened based on the following parameters:

Demonstrated interest in the Film & moving
images forms

Documentary evidences of being part of formal
education in Film & media studies

Evidence of doing research at doctoral or
post-doctoral in films / media.

Professionals/official who work with film and media
as part of their assigned duty

Filmmakers & cine technicians working in any
part of India
-
Cine enthusiasts including film society/ film club
members or motivated cinéphiles.
8) Selection Process:
FTII will review all applications and forward them to
a scrutiny committee for evaluation. Shortlisted candidates will also be
notified via email at their registered email addresses with details about their
selection and the subsequent fee payment process. List of final selected participants will be published within two weeks
after the receipt of applications.

Course Fee:
Shortlisted candidates will be informed to pay the course
fees Rs. 16,000/- via Online Transfer to FTII account through SBI payment
collect portal.
10) Accommodation & Food:
Participants
are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and meals.
However, limited triple-sharing accommodation (for 30–40 participants) may be
available. Priority will be given to differently-abled, female, and outstation
participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Separate charges apply. Request for accommodation must be sent
within three days of receiving the shortlisting email.
11) Accommodation Fee:
Rs. 6000/- for per candidate on
triple-sharing basis.
Please
Note: Hostel check-in will be available from 12:00 PM onwards on May 31, and
check-out must be completed by 12:00 PM on June 20 (midday on both days).
12) No. of participants:
The course will have a minimum number of 30
participants and maximum number will be about 60 participants (including
out-station and local participants).
The administration reserves the right to
decide whether to conduct the course if the number of participants is fewer
than 30.
An application will be considered complete
only upon receipt of the non-refundable
application fee of ₹1000. The fee

institutions name and click submit.

Fill-up
the application form with requisite details and proceed for payment.

Make
necessary payment of Rs. 1000/- or Rs. 16000/- or Rs. 6000 as the case
may be.

Once
payment is done, please note "SBI collect Reference Number"
(mentioned in payment confirmation receipt). This will be required for future
reference/application form.

If
possible, digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in
one of the following ways;

by
taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it

by
taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or print screen (if using
computer)

by
simply taking a photograph from mobile

Certificates: Participants would be given
participation certificates on successful completion of the course. Minimum 90%
attendance is mandatory for lectures & screening to issue certificate. Decision of FTII, NFDC (NFAI) regarding issuing
certificate/s will be final.
Terms & Conditions:
By
agreeing to the terms and conditions in the application form, participants
confirm that they have read and understood the advertisement published on the
FTII website. They declare that they are eligible to apply and meet all the
requirements as stated in the advertisement. Furthermore, participants
acknowledge that the decision of the Vice Chancellor, FTII regarding admission
to the course and its conduct will be final.
Participants
are also kindly requested to maintain discipline and adhere to the instructions
provided by the course coordinator, guest speakers, and the authorities of
FTII, NFDC, and NFAI throughout the duration of the course. Cooperation in
following the course guidelines is appreciated. Non-compliance or repeated
violations may be treated as a breach of conduct, which could result in
expulsion from the course and forfeiture of the course fee. The decision of the Vice Chancellor, FTII in
all such matters will be considered final and binding.
