WINTER COURSE IN FILM APPRECIATION
20th to 31st January 2025
A two-week long, full-time WINTER FILM APPRECIATION COURSE 2024 (Offline) will be held at Pune from January 20th to 31st January, 2025, under the joint auspices of National Film Development Corporation of India (National Film Archive of India) and Film & Television Institute of India. This is an intensive course designed to promote comprehensive understanding and insights into the nature of cinema and other related forms and practices. These include recent developments like independent films, digital streaming and the OTT media. The course is primarily designed to meet the needs of teachers/scholars interested in introducing film study activities in educational institutions, media practitioners, film society organizers, researchers, Govt. officials handling films and serious cinéphiles.
The curriculum includes theoretical study of the art and history of film and the development of cinema as a medium of art and communication. Conceptual areas of cinema such as time, space, mise-en-scene, genres, movements, image and sound aesthetics will feature prominently in the programme. There will also be a brief introduction to history and aesthetics of documentaries. Film classics, short fiction films and non-fiction films, both Indian and International will be used for critical analysis and study. Lecturers will include both regular as well as eminent guest faculty members of FTII.
*Applicants are hereby alerted that this not a film production or a scriptwriting course. The emphasis is completely on understanding and analysis of films and film history, and there will be no practice-based inputs included in the syllabus.*
1. Course Dates : 20th to 31st January 2025 (except Saturday & Sunday)
2. Course Timing: 9:30 am to 8:30 pm including film screening
3. Course Venue: FTII- NFDC (NFAI), Phase II, Near Doordarshan Kendra, Rambaug Colony, Kothrud, Pune
4. The medium of instruction would be mainly English.
5. The applicant should have completed 21 years of age as on 01.01.2024
6. Educational Qualification: Minimum Graduation (In exceptional cases, HSC (12th pass) pass may be considered)
7) Application Form & Fee:
Application form has to be duly filled, with a non-refundable fee of Rs. 200/- to be paid via Online Transfer details (via SBI Payment Collect Portal).
Application forms will be screened based on parameters below:
- Demonstrated, interest in the Film & moving images forms
- Documentary evidences of being part of formal education in Film & media studies
- Evidence of doing research at doctoral or post doctoral in films / media.
- Professionals/official who work with film and media as part of their assigned duty
- Filmmakers & cine technicians working in any part of India
- Cine enthusiasts including film society/ film club members.
The last date for receipt of Applications is 23.12.2024 (6 pm IST). Application submitted after due date & time will not be considered.

8) Selection: On scrutiny of Application
FTII will make a list of the forms received and hand it over to a scrutiny committee. The list of shortlisted candidates will be published on the official website of FTII within a week of the application deadline. The candidates will also be notified via email at their registered email address regarding their short listing and the subsequent fee payment process.
9) Course Fee:
Shortlisted candidates will be informed to pay the non-refundable Course fees Rs.12,000/- via Online Transfer to FTII account through SBI payment collect portal.
10) Accommodation & Food:
Participants are responsible for their own accommodation for stay and meals. However, limited accommodation on triple-sharing basis, for up to 18-24 participants may be available and priority for accommodation will be given to differently-abled & female participants as well as outstation participants on a first-come-first served basis. A separate charge will apply for accommodation. Candidates wishing to avail of this facility must sent request within three days in reply email of short listing.
11) Accommodation Fee:
Rs. 4000/- for per candidate on triple-sharing basis
(Please Note: Check in hostel is 4 pm onward only one day before the course starts & Check out from hostel till 11 am only one day after the course ends)
12) No. of participants:
The course will have a minimum number of 25 participants and maximum number will be about 80 participants (including out-station and local participants).
Administration will take a call if the number of participants is less than 25.

- Click open the link - https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/payment/listcategory.htm OR visit www.onlinesbi.com and further click on “SB Collect” which is at the top left, vertically 06th from left to right.
- Read the “Terms Used”, then tick/ click on the ‘check box’ and further click on “Proceed”
- Select All India in State of Corporate / Institution, then select Educational Institutions in Type of Corporate/ Institution and click go.
- Search/Find FTII Fees Account in Educational institutions name and click submit.
- In the payment category select

- Fill-up the application form with requisite details and proceed for payment.
- Make necessary payment of Rs. 200/- or Rs. 12000/- or Rs. 4000 as the case may be.
- Once payment is done, please note "SBI collect Reference Number" (mentioned in payment confirmation receipt). This may be required for future reference.

If possible, digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in one of the following ways;
- by taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it
- by taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or print screen (if using computer)
- by simply taking a photograph from mobile
Certificates: Participants would be given participation certificates on successful completion of the course. Minimum 90% attendance is mandatory for lectures & screening to issue certificate. Decision of FTII, NFDC (NFAI) regarding issuing certificate/s will be final.
Terms & conditions: By agreeing to the terms & conditions in the application form, participants are confirming that they have read & understood the website advt. They are eligible to apply and fulfil all the requirements as stated in the advt. Further, participants agree that decision of FTII Director regarding admission to the course and its conduction will be final.
Further to add in this, participants may kindly requested to maintain discipline and adhere to the instructions provided by the course coordinator, guest speakers, and the higher authorities of FTII, NFDC, and NFAI throughout the course. We appreciate your cooperation in following the guidelines, as non-compliance or repeated violations may be considered as a breach of conduct, potentially leading to expulsion from the course and forfeiture of the course fee. The decision of the FTII Director regarding the course's conduct will be final.
