40 years of Umrao Jaan (29th May, 2021) (Events)
Set in the 19th century, Lucknow, Umrao Jaan is an iconic Indian film released in 1981 and based on 'Umrao Jaan Ada by Mirza Hai Ruswa'. 4 decades have passed but the film is still engraved in the memory of millions and is admired for its costumes, story, music, and pure cinematic beauty.
On the occasion of the film's 40th-anniversary celebration, FTII held an online conversation where Muzaffar Ali (Director & Producer of the film) in the presence of Javed Siddiqui, Shama Zaidi, Naseeruddin Shah, Satish Shah, and Talat Aziz spoke about his experiences and also the narrative of the movie that catapulted it into a classic hit.
All the participants indulged in discussing various unknown facts of the movie, insights, iconic scenes, songs, personal stories, experiences, and also the possibility of releasing the movie digitally.
Talat Aziz took everyone down the nostalgia lane and concluded the session on a beautiful note by singing 'Zindagi Jab Bhi' live.
