The Centre for Open Learning (CFOL) is the outreach vertical of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune (FTII). This outreach initiative works for democratizing cinema education and providing quality cinema literacy to masses. The outreach activities of the Institute began in 2017 as Skilling India in Film and Television (SKIFT), which is now integrated as CFOL.
Under CFOL, FTII organizes short courses in various aspects and film and television production. The courses are held online, offline, on-campus in Pune as well as off-campus across the country. From 2017 to now, CFOL has conducted courses in 40+ cities from Kargil to Car Nicobar Islands in more than 40 topics. In the past 05 years, FTII has organized around 400 courses thereby training more than 14,000 participants in the field of Cinema & Television.
As a part of Aazadi ka Amrit Mohotsav celebrations on the occasion of the 75th Year of Indian Independence, FTII is conducting short courses exclusively for learners from Scheduled Tribe across the country on four different subjects - Film Appreciation, Acting, Screenplay Writing and Smartphone Filmmaking. These courses are without any fee to the learners and are conducted in association with State Govt./ UT Administration/ Universities/ Educational Institutes etc. So far, around 40 such Amrit Mahotsav Short Courses have been conducted and around 800 Scheduled Tribe learners were trained.
FTII is now expanding its outreach to another level by inking partnerships with other educational institutes. In July 2022, FTII became the knowledge partner of University of Ladakh, thereby guiding the latter in film and television academics
