Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, under Centre For Open Learning (CFOL) and Vijay Tendulkar Writers’ Academy (VTWA), announces Online and Evening Course - Basic Course in AI to generative AI: Ethical Content Creation for Teens.

1. Name of the Online Course: Basic Course in AI to generative AI: Ethical Content Creation
2. Dates: 23-26 June 2025 (Any 03 days)
3. Timings: 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and 02.00 pm to 04.00 pm
4. No. of participants: 75 (Course may not be conducted if min. strength of 60 is not reached)
5. Age: Participants must be 13 years completed 18 years running as on 01^st June 2025
6. Educational Qualification: 07^th Standard passed.
7. Online Platform: Google Classroom & Google Meet Platform
8. Medium of Instructions: English & Hindi

For Indian Nationals: Rs 5,000/-

For Foreigners including NRI, OCI etc. and also those who are presently staying outside India: Rs 15,000/-.

Course fee of selected participants will be non-refundable, non-transferrable, non- adjustable, etc. under any circumstances. Course fee of all the non – selected participants will be returned within 21 working days of the course commencement.

9. Mode of payment: Online through SBI Collect (along with application form).
10. Due date & time to submit application: 10^th June 2025, 6 pm IST. Application submitted after due date & time will not be considered.
11. Selection Criteria: On First – Come – First – Served Basis. List of selected participants will be published on our website and selection emails will also be sent to all the selected participants.
12. Online platform: FTII will be using “Google Classroom” and participants are requested to get familiarized with the same. Steps to join online class including login id & password will be shared with each selected participant in the selection email.
13. Computer literacy: It is the participant’s responsibility to be technologically capable to take an online course. Participants must be computer literate.
14. MANDATORY REQUIREMENT:

Since the course is online, participants must have following facilities;

(i) A Desktop / Laptop having minimum 4 GB RAM, 1.6 GHz or better processor (Intel i3 or i5 or better).  (Windows / MAC)

(ii) Operating system: a) Windows 7 or 8 or 10. b) MAC OS Sierra or later

(iii) Audio – Video software: Latest versions of VLC player, Windows Media Player or Quick Time Player.

(iv) Compatible good quality headphones/ earphones with mic

(v) Compatible HD webcam

(vi) Internet pack of minimum 5 GB per day exclusively for this course. It is recommended to have fixed wired Internet connection with minimum speed of 10 Mbps or more.

(vii) Web browser: Latest version of Google Chrome (Preferred), Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari.

Use of Mobile Phone (in place of Laptop or Desktop Computer) to attend the classes is strictly prohibited. Such participants will not be allowed to join the classes.

15. Course Director: Dr. Alwin Anuse

Alwin is working as Associate Professor in TV Engineering Department of FTII. He completed his graduation & post graduation in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering from Pune University. Further, he completed his PhD from the Govt. College of Engineering, Pune (COEP), affiliated with Pune University (now Savitribai Phule Pune University – SPPU). His research topic was “A Framework for Classification under Geometric Invariance in Images,” which proposed a novel training algorithm that reduced the training time of a Deep Neural Network (DNN). The research focused on designing an invariant pattern recognition system, which is a critical need for many AI-based systems. This as well as his other research works has been published in reputed journals such as Springer, Elsevier etc.

He also served as a reviewer for reputed journals, including IEEE (Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems) and IET (Image Processing). His research areas include Artificial Intelligence-based systems, signal processing, AI in filmmaking, and social computing. He also holds 02 patents in his name and is having in-total experience of 20+ yrs.

He has guided many UG, PG & PhD students at MIT World Peace University, Pune, in fields such as AI applications in character recognition, medical domain, social media, and prediction. He has been teaching AI-related subjects at UG & PG levels for nearly a decade.

He also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Indian Film Studies from SPPU in 2018, a Diploma in Theater Arts from IGNOU in 2022, an eleven-month Postgraduate Certificate course in Data Science from MIT World Peace University and KPMG India, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management and Administration from IGNOU in 2024.

16. How to apply:

1. Click open the link - https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm OR visit www.onlinesbi.com and further click on “SB Collect” which is at the top left, vertically 06^th from left to right.

2. Search/Find FTII Fees Account in Educational institutions name and click submit.

3. In the payment category select “B1 BC AI to Generative AI for Ethical Content.”.

4. Fill-up the application form with requisite details and proceed for payment.

5. Make necessary payment of Rs 5,000/- or Rs. 15,000 as the case may be.

6. Once payment is done, please note "SBcollect Reference Number" (mentioned in payment confirmation receipt). This may be required for future reference. 

9. If possible, digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in one of the following ways;

(i) by taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it

(ii) by taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or printscreen (if using computer)

(iii) by simply taking a photograph from mobile

(iv) check your bank account to confirm whether money (course fee) has been deducted or not

(v) After a day or two, once again check to see whether money (course fee) has been refunded.

(vi) In case of refund, it is a transaction failure and if so, once again apply for the course afresh.

10. No document/ certificate related to educational qualification, age etc. is to be attached.Participants’ self – declaration in the application form is sufficient.

11. Terms & conditions: By agreeing to the terms & conditions in the application form, participants are confirming that they have read & understood the website advt. They are eligible to apply and fulfil all the requirements as stated in the advt. Further, participants agree that decision of FTII Director regarding admission to the course and its conduction will be final.

Further to add in this, it is expected of the participants that during the class they must mute their mics but keep their cameras on unless otherwise instructed. Keeping camera off throughout the class or not heeding to instructions to switch on the camera will be seen as an act of indiscipline and will lead to expulsion from the Course and forfeiture of the Course fee. Decision of FTII Director regarding conducting the course in all respects will be final.

17. Communication with participants: All communications with the participants will be carried out through email only. List of shortlisted participants may be published on FTII website and selection email will be sent to the selected participants on their registered email id.

Course Details

This course introduces teenagers to the world of Artificial Intelligence, from its foundational concepts to the exciting tools of Generative AI, with a strong emphasis on ethical responsibility in content creation. With a mix of concepts, visuals, hands-on demos, and real-life examples (like deepfakes and AI in films), learners explore both the power and responsibility of AI. The course also helps students understand future learning pathways and careers in AI, including degrees, certifications, and interdisciplinary fields that blend AI with media, design, and storytelling.

6. Introduction to AI in Filmmaking and some tools related to it.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will:

• Understand core AI and Generative AI concepts
• Get introduced to beginner-friendly AI tools .
• Recognize ethical boundaries in AI content use
• Spot misuse (e.g., deepfakes) and think critically about digital content.
• Select suitable educational pathways and career options in AI, including awareness of degree programs, diplomas, online courses, and interdisciplinary options combining AI with design, media, or filmmaking.

What is the course not about :

This course is not designed to provide training in advanced programming, software development, or professional filmmaking using artificial intelligence. It does not seek to develop participants into AI experts or deliver in-depth instruction on machine learning algorithms. Furthermore, the course does not engage in speculative discussions, such as whether AI-generated films will replace human-created cinema. Rather, its primary objective is to build foundational awareness, introduce the theoretical underpinnings of artificial intelligence, foster ethical thinking, and offer a demonstrative overview of AI utilities relevant to visual media. The course does not promote any particular software; while the instructor may demonstrate selected AI tools—whether free or paid—participants are encouraged to explore and utilize any suitable tools of their choice.
