Basic Course in Film Criticism in Pune from 27th to 30th January 2026

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune under its ‘Centre For Open Learning (CFOL)’ announces “Basic Course in Film Criticism” in Pune from 27th to 30th January 2026 at Vijay Tendulkar Writer’s Academy, Rambaug Colony, Near Doordarshan Kendra, Kothrud, Pune .

Following are the details in this regard;

  1. Name of the Course: Basic Course in Film Criticism
  2. Dates: 27th to 30th January 2026 (04 days)
  3. Timings: 10 am to 5.30 pm
  4. Max. no. of seats: 24 (Course may not be conducted if min. strength of 20 is reached)
  5. Age: 18 years & above as on 01st January 2026
  6. Educational Qualification: HSC (12th pass). In exceptional cases, 10th pass may be considered
  7. Nationality: Indian
  8. Medium of Instructions: English & Hindi
  9. Venue: Vijay Tendulkar Writer’s Academy, Rambaug Colony, Near Doordarshan Kendra, , Kothrud, Pune
  10. Per Participant Course fee: Rs 4,000/- 

     Course fee is excluding lunch, tea/ coffee, snacks etc.

Course fee of selected participants will be non-refundable, non-transferrable, non-adjustable, etc. under any circumstances Course fee of all the non – selected participants will be returned within 21 working days of the course commencement.

 However, due to any reason, if the course is postponed OR cancelled by the organisers, course fee will be refunded.

  1. Mode of payment: Online through SBI Collect (along with application form).
  2. Due date & time to submit online application: 13th January, 2026, 6 pm IST. Application submitted after due date & time will not be considered.
  3. Selection Criteria: On First – Come – First – Serve Basis. List of selected participants will be published on our website and selection emails will also be sent to all the selected participants.
  4. Certificates: All participants would be given participation certificate on successful completion of the course.  Minimum 90% attendance is mandatory to get certificate.

  1. Communication with participants: All communications with the participants will be carried out through email only. List of shortlisted participants will be published on FTII website and selection email will be sent to the selected participants on their registered email.
  1. Limited Hostel accommodation for outstation participants: Rs 1,500/- (Rs. 300/- per day for 05 days) on triple sharing basis at Vijay Tendulkar Writer’s Academy campus in Kothrud.

Hostel Accommodation Fee is excluding breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/ coffee, snacks etc. Hostel accommodation fee payment details will be shared separately with the participants who are selected & who need said accommodation, on First come first served basis

 

  1.  Course Director: Ms Meena Karnik

Ms. Meena Karnik has been in journalism for almost 40 years.

She co-edits an annual, Akshar which has won all the prestigious literary awards in Marathi.

Meena Karnik had been associated with newspaper like Apala Mahanagar and magazines like Shatkar and Chanderi in the 1980s and 1990s.

She freelances and writes on world cinema regularly in periodicals like Weekly Sadhana.

 As a FIPRESCI (an international organization of film critics) member, she has been a jury for Ankara's Flying Broom International Women's Film Festival, the Kerala IFF, the Bengaluru IFF and the Aurangabad IFF.

She has more than ten books to her credit which also include a few translations. Her book Pyaar ka Raag Suno,(co-author) traces the history of romance from Dev Anand to Shahrukh Khan in Hindi cinema. Her most recent book on eight contemporary directors from over the world “Aajache Masters” (Todays Masters) has received overwhelming response.

2. Fill-up the application form with requisite details and proceed for payment.

3. Make necessary payment of Rs 4,000/-

4. Once payment is done, please note "SBI collect Reference Number" (mentioned in payment confirmation receipt). This may be required for future reference. 

5. If possible, digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in one of the following ways;

(i) by taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it

(ii) by taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or print screen (if using computer)

(iii) by simply taking a photograph from mobile

6. No document/ certificate related to educational qualification, age etc. is to be attached. Participants’ self – declaration in the application form is sufficient.

7. Terms & conditions: By agreeing to the terms & conditions in the application form, participants are confirming that they have read & understood the website advt. They are eligible to apply and fulfil all the requirements as stated in the advt. Further, participants agree that decision of FTII Director regarding admission to the course and its conduction in all respect will be final.

  1. The primary aim of the course is to introduce students to a range of criticism, both written and visual. To make them aware of the various avenues in front of them. Like Podcasting or Video essays or Blogs and Written critique.

  1. Develop a critical lens.
  2. Accurate, concise and persuasive writing.
  3. Clarity and effectiveness of communication, oral and written.
  4. Audio visual literacy.
