Basic Course in Stop Motion Animation on FTII Pune campus from 08-18 September 2025
Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune under its ‘Centre For Open Learning (CFOL)’ initiative announces course in “Basic Course in Stop Motion Animation” from 08-18 September 2025 at Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.
Following are the details in this regard:
- Name of the Course: Basic Course in Stop Motion Animation
- Dates: 08-18 September 2025 (10 days, excluding Sunday)
- Timings: 10 am to 06 pm with lunch break from 1.30 to 2 pm
- No. of participants: 16. (Course will be conducted only if min. strength of 13 is reached)
- Age: Participants must be 18 years or above in age as on 01st September 2025.
- Educational Qualification: HSC (12th std.) pass. In exceptional cases 10th std. pass may be considered
- Nationality: Indian
- Venue: Animation Department, FTII Main Campus, Law College Road, Pune – 411004
- Per participant fee: Rs 15,000/-
Fee is excluding breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/ coffee, snacks etc. Fee of selected participants will be non-refundable, non-transferrable, non-adjustable, etc. under any circumstances. Fee of all the non – selected participants will be refunded within 21 working days of the course commencement. Also, due to any other reason, if the course is cancelled by FTII, full fee will be refunded.
- Limited Hostel accommodation for outstation participants: Rs 3600/- (Rs. 300/- per day for 12 days) on triple sharing basis on our extended campus in Kothrud (5 Kms from main campus). Participants need to make to & fro self transport arrangements at their own cost.
Fee and Hostel Accommodation Fee is excluding breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/ coffee, snacks etc. Hostel accommodation fee payment details will be shared separately with the participants who are selected & who need said accommodation, on First come first served basis

(12) Medium of Instructions: English and Hindi.
(13) Selection Criteria: First – Come – First – Served basis. Selected candidates would be communicated by email. List of the selected participants will be published on FTII website.
(14) Certificates: All participants would be given participation certificate on successful completion of course. Minimum 90% attendance is mandatory.

(16) Communication with participants: All communications with the participants will be carried out through email only. List of shortlisted participants will be published on FTII website and selection email will be sent to the selected participants on their registered email.
(17) How to apply:
a. Click open the link – https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm OR visit www.onlinesbi.sbi and further click on “SB Collect” which is at the top left, vertically 06th from left to right. In the Search box, search/ Find FTII Fees Account and click submit.
b. In the payment category select “C4 Basic Course in Stop-motion Animation”
c. Fill-up the application form with requisite details and proceed for payment.
d. Make necessary payment of Rs 15,000/-
e. Once payment is done, please note "SBI collect Reference Number" (mentioned in payment confirmation receipt). This may be required for future reference.
f. If possible, digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in one of the following ways;
(i) by taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it
(ii) by taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or print screen (if using computer)
(iii) by simply taking a photograph from mobile
(iv) check your bank account to confirm whether money (fee) has been deducted or not
(v) After a day or two, once again check to see whether money (fee) has been refunded.
(vi) In case of refund, it is transaction failure and so, once again apply for course afresh.
g. No document/ certificate related to educational qualification, age etc. is to be attached. Participants’ self – declaration in the application form is sufficient.

Also, it is presumed that participants will be staying and or attending the course at their own risk & cost and will not be held responsible for anything or matter of what-so-ever nature. (17) Course Director: Mandar Digrajkar
Mandar Digrajkar, working with FTII, Pune as Associate Professor and HoD of TV Graphics department since 2011, with overall 24 years of professional and academic experience in this field.
He holds Diploma in Commercial Arts, Advanced Diploma in Computer Animation from C-DAC, Masters Degree in Indology and Masters Degree in Fine Arts. Currently he serves as Guide for NFDC-NFAI fellowship program.
(18) Course Contents
This foundational course is designed for participants with little to no prior experience in animation filmmaking. It provides an opportunity to explore and learn various stop-motion animation techniques. The primary objective is to develop a basic understanding of the art and craft of stop-motion animation while gaining insights into its aesthetic and technical aspects.
The course begins with a brief introduction to different types of animation, tools, and methodologies, followed by an intensive, hands-on approach focused on the creation of a stop-motion short film.
Through the course participants will gain an understanding of:
- Conceptualizing and developing an idea for a stop-motion animation film.
- Utilizing available tools and techniques to create stop-motion animations.
- Making informed creative decisions regarding the choice of materials and mediums.
- Designing and building models with armatures for animation.
- Applying principles such as timing, spacing, movement to convey emotions effectively.
- Engaging in all phases of production—Pre-production, Production, and Post-production—through practical sessions.
The course is highly practice-oriented, encouraging participants to actively engage in hands-on activities across all stages of film production. As part of the course, participants will work in teams to conceptualize and produce a short stop-motion animation film based on their own ideas, within the defined course framework under the supervision of faculties.
- Understanding animation as a cinematic medium
- Introduction to various animation techniques
- Overview of animation film production workflow
- Pre-Production: Storyboarding, animatics, character/model and rig creation etc.
- Production: Capturing animation using cameras and specialized software etc.
- Post-Production: Editing, incorporating visual effects, and adding sound/music etc.
The course will be delivered through a combination of theoretical lectures, hands-on practical sessions, interactive discussions, and screenings of animation films to deepen technical and creative comprehension.
