Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune under ‘Centre for Open Learning’ (CFOL) program, announces “Basic Introduction to Professional Sound Recording and Sound Design for Storytelling (a Journey for Beginners) from 13-17 October 2025.
Following are the details in this regard;
- Name of the Course: Introduction to Professional Sound Recording and Sound Design for Storytelling (a Journey for Beginners)
- Dates: 13-17 October 2025 (One week)
- Timings: 09.30 am am to 6.00 pm (with lunch break from 1 to 1.30 pm)
- No. of participants: 20. (STTP will be conducted only if min. strength of 16 is reached)
- Age: Participants must be 18 years or above in age as on 01st September 2025.
- Educational Qualification: HSC (12th std. pass). In exceptional cases, 10th std. pass may be considered
- Nationality: Indian
- Venue: TV Sound Department, FTII Main Campus, Law College Road, Pune – 411004
- Per participant fee: Rs 5,000/-
- Limited Hostel accommodation for outstation participants: Rs 1,800/- (Rs. 300/- per day for 6 days) on triple sharing basis on our extended campus in Kothrud (5 Kms from main campus). Participants need to make to & fro self transport arrangements at their own cost.
Course Fee and Hostel Accommodation Fee is excluding breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/ coffee, snacks etc. Hostel accommodation fee payment details will be shared separately with the participants who are selected & who need said accommodation, on First come first served basis
Course Fee of selected participants will be non-refundable, non-transferrable, non-adjustable, etc. under any circumstances. Fee of all the non – selected participants will be refunded within 21 working days of the STTP commencement. Also, due to any other reason, if the STTP is cancelled by FTII, full fee will be refunded.
- Last date to apply: By 06 pm on 18th September 2025
- Medium of Instructions: English and Hindi.
- Selection Criteria: First – Come – First – Served basis. Selected candidates would be communicated by email. List of the selected participants will be published on FTII website.
- Certificates: All participants would be given participation certificate on successful completion of STTP. Minimum 90% attendance is mandatory.

17. Course Director: Issac Newton
Issac Newton is working as Assistant Professor, Sound Recording, in Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), Deemed to be University, Pune. He studied B.Sc Physics (1999-2002) from Vivekananda College of Arts and Science Kanyakumari, M.S University Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu and also studied Sound Recording and Sound Engineering (Honours) (2003-2006) Batch from Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu (FTIT), Taramani, Chennai.
He has completed more than 40 projects (Feature films, Documentaries, Cartoon Animation films/Television Series) as a Sound Recordist / Sound Editor / Re-Recording Mixer / Sound Designer.
He worked as a Freelance Quality Control Engineer, Trade Channel for Walt Disney and Cartoon Network Productions (TV Animation series and Theatrical releases).
He has designed 5.1 Digital Surround Sound Studio in Films Division, Ministry of I&B, Govt. of India, Mumbai and also designed more than 5 theatres and studios (preview theatres, sound design and Recording studios) all over in India.
He worked as a Sound Designer for Columbian film maker Hugo Santander Ferreira -First Film productions, Colombia.

18. How to apply:
1. Click open the link - https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm OR visit www.onlinesbi.com and further click on “SB Collect” which is at the top left, vertically 06th from left to right.
2. Search/Find FTII Fees Account in Educational institutions name and click submit.
3. In the payment category select “B1 Intro Pro Sound Design and Rec for Storytelling”.
4. Fill-up the application form with requisite details and proceed for payment.
5. Make necessary payment of Rs 5000/-
6. Once payment is done, please note "SBI collect Reference Number" (mentioned in payment confirmation receipt). This may be required for future reference.
7. If possible, digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in one of the following ways;
(i) by taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it
(ii) by taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or print screen (if using computer)
(iii) by simply taking a photograph from mobile
(iv) check your bank account to confirm whether money (course fee) has been deducted or not
(v) After a day or two, once again check to see whether money (course fee) has been refunded.
(vi) In case of refund, it is a transaction failure and if so, once again apply for the course afresh.
8. No document/ certificate related to educational qualification, age etc. is to be attached.Participants’ self – declaration in the application form is sufficient.
9. Terms & conditions: By agreeing to the terms & conditions in the application form, participants are confirming that they have read & understood the website advt. They are eligible to apply and fulfil all the requirements as stated in the advt. Further, participants agree that decision of FTII Director regarding admission to the course and its conduction will be final.
Further to add in this, it is expected of the participants that during the class they must mute their mics but keep their cameras on unless otherwise instructed. Keeping camera off throughout the class or not heeding to instructions to switch on the camera will be seen as an act of indiscipline and will lead to expulsion from the Course and forfeiture of the Course fee. Decision of FTII Director regarding conducting the course in all respects will be final.
Course Details
The 5-day course aims to provide students with comprehensive insights into the world of sound design and recording. The course will cover:
- Understanding the fundamentals of sound and its importance in storytelling
- The importance of environmental study/sonic awareness/memory for sound design and storytelling through real life assignments.
- An overview of the entire workflow from pre-production to production and post-production
- Experiencing and exploring all stages of sound recording and design, from planning to mastering
- Awareness of various audio monitoring formats and essentials
- A comprehensive journey for beginners to understand and explore the entire sound design process
This course is designed to be interactive, engaging, and informative, providing students with a basic foundation in sound design and recording principles and all stages involved.
