(21) Course Overview
This intensive 7-day workshop focuses on unblocking creativity and helping artists discover or recover their creative voice through a structured, introspective process. Inspired by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, it’s been adapted for film professionals - writers, directors, actors, producers, studio executives, cinematographers, sound designers, musicians, editors, animators, and other artists - across experience levels, from beginners to working practitioners. The workshop combines guided exercises, discussions, and daily creative practices to help participants flow creatively, find their voice, and reconnect with the joy of creating.
The Framework
Step 1: Identifying common creative blocks such as fear, self-doubt, and internalised judgement, and beginning to separate the act of creation from evaluation, to create a safe, non-judgemental space for creative work.
Step 2: Exploring one’s identity as an artist beyond roles and outcomes, by reconnecting with early creative impulses, forgotten interests, and formative experiences.
Step 3: Recognising patterns of avoidance and reclaiming creative agency through small, deliberate actions that shift practice from waiting for inspiration to regular engagement.
Step 4: Examining areas where creative integrity may be compromised due to external pressure or self-censorship, and clarifying what feels authentic through reflection and discussion.
Step 5: Challenging limiting beliefs around success, failure, and ambition, and expanding one’s sense of creative possibility through imaginative and exploratory exercises.
Step 6: Shifting from scarcity thinking about time, ideas, and opportunity to recognising existing resources, support systems, and the renewable nature of creativity.
Step 7: Reconnecting with the world as a source of inspiration through observation, listening, and engagement with people, places, and lived experience.
Step 8: Building creative resilience by reflecting on setbacks, criticism, and uncertainty, and learning to continue working through doubt rather than waiting for confidence.
Step 9: Cultivating creative compassion by easing harsh self-judgement and perfectionism, and allowing ideas to grow through patience, drafts, and experimentation.
Step 10: Recognising how distraction, over-commitment, and burnout affect creative practice, and learning to protect time and energy for sustained work.
Step 11: Strengthening creative autonomy by balancing feedback with intuition and developing an internal compass for creative decision-making.
Step 12: Consolidating learning from the course by reflecting on shifts in practice, identifying useful tools, and carrying forward a sustainable creative process beyond the workshop.
