Editing
About the Department
Since its foundation in 1960, the Film Editing Department has provided students with a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. We aim to prepare them for success in the rapidly evolving field of media. Our faculty members are experts in their respective fields and are dedicated to guiding students towards achieving their full potential.
In the course of their studies, students experience the effect of images, sounds and edits using their sense of seeing, hearing and feeling. In the Master Class and workshops, students engage in a theoretical and practical examination of what they have learnt. The joint project work with students from other disciplines allows them to try out various film production formats and apply what they have learnt so far. The aim is to develop and expand students' editorial skills in technical, dramaturgical, formal, aesthetic and social terms.
Our ultimate goal is to empower our graduates to make meaningful contributions to the media landscape and excel in their chosen careers.
About the Course: Three Year PG Diploma Course In Editing (equivalent to Master’s degree recognized by AIU)
The editing students are encouraged to develop their own faculties with innovative applications and experiments in the craft of editing & other allied areas of learning. The course enables the students to be conceptually rich, aware of their own cultural resources and be able to engage with various forms of cinema. The course offers multidimensional opportunities to practice the art and craft of editing and developing their own distinctive style.
During their Common Course of Studies (semester 1 & 2), all students attend the same classes as their colleagues specializing in five specialisations under the film wing and, like them, they write, shoot, and edit their own exercises, short films. The Common course of studies grants Editing students the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge from a director’s perspective.
The Specialization Semesters (3-6) comprises a separate curriculum for the Editing students: They now switch sides – to work on the material shot by the other students. In addition to editing their directing colleagues’ exercises, they take part in seminars, workshops, and industry tours, to expand their skills as editors.
