Administrative Structure

The FTII functions as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and is registered under Societies’ Registration Act of 1860.  The FTII Society is headed by a President who is a well-known personality from film and television, arts or academics. The Governing Council (GC) is constituted by election from among the members of the Society.  The GC, as the apex body of the FTII, is responsible for making all major policy decisions of the Institute in consonance with its aims and objectives.  The GC, in turn, appoints the Academic Council (AC) and the Standing Finance Committee (SFC), who are responsible for advising the FTII in policy matters related to academic affairs and financial matters.  The President of the Society also functions as the Chairman of each of the bodies, the GC, the AC and the SFC.

Mr. Shyam Benegal, Mr. Mrinal Sen, Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mr. Mahesh Bhatt, Mr. Girish Karnad, Mr. Vinod Khanna, Prof. U.R. Ananthamurthy, Mr. Saeed Mirza, Mr Gajendra Chauhan, Mr. Anupam Kher,  Mr. B.P. Singh and Mr. Shekhar Kapur are among the eminent personalities who have served as Chairman of the Governing Council in the past.
         
The Director of the Institute serves as its Executive Head and implements its policies and programmes. Shri. Dhiraj Singh, is currently the Director of the FTII.
